What is AllData?

AllData is a powerful auto repair solution that offers a unique collection of OEM materials to aid mechanics in their repairs. AllData Repair includes unedited data such as TSBs (technical service bulletins), DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes), and interactive wiring diagrams for over 44,000 engine-specific vehicles. This can help you identify issues more quickly and identify the right course of action.

For a slightly higher fee, you can get even more information through AllData’s Collision or Diagnostics subscriptions. If you’re regularly repairing vehicles after collisions, the Collision plan could save you from spending tens of hours per month on busy work while improving your accuracy and reducing liability.

AllData is most widely known for its information, but it also offers some shop management tools that can increase efficiency in other areas. The Shop Manager tool, for example, integrates information from AllData into a familiar application that streamlines estimates, repair orders, invoices, and other basic functions. You can even check local part availability and add the cost of those parts to your estimates.

The more comprehensive Manage Online subscription comes with the same features plus extra tools like customer relationship management. Manage Online also includes convenient integrations with third-party software including QuickBooks, myCARFAX, and WorldPay. It can be used in conjunction with AllData Repair/Collision or on its own if you don’t need that information.

AllData user review highlights

We analyzed 92 user reviews about AllData from three third-party review websites to provide this summary.

AllData hasn’t generated as many user reviews as some other auto repair platforms, which can make it difficult to draw any clear conclusions about the product. While feedback is generally positive, we noticed a few criticisms that left some customers unsatisfied with AllData’s functionality.

For example, most users are happy with the ease of use, but many report inaccuracies in AllData’s labor time estimates. This can make it tricky to rely on when using the platform to provide estimates. Some reviewers also feel that AllData’s minimum price tag of $189 per month is high considering the product’s features.

That said, we recently spoke with a shop owner who has been running his business for 18 years, uses AllData, and finds that it can pretty much do it all, from providing information on specific vehicles to listing labor times, part numbers, and specs and diagrams to help you quote and plan for the repairs needed. “It’s great to have one software program that we can do it all in, and it’s very easy to navigate and find what you’re looking for,” he told us. “If you have a question on something that you can’t find, they have all the shop owners in there, and you can answer questions from other people or suggest repairs. You can search to see if the question you are wondering about has been asked and answered already.”

Another shop operator who has been using AllData for 27 years told us the biggest pros for the software include that the VIN translation populates the vehicle data accurately, it cuts down on labor times, he can edit profit margins quickly, it’s very customizable, and his team has access to customers history for warranty and other important things.

• Ease of Setup – Ease of use is one of AllData’s strengths, but the setup process has led to more mixed reviews. With unclear instructions and a fairly tough learning curve, many users noted that it took them some time to get used to AllData’s design and functionality.
• Ease of Use – AllData performs well in ease of use, with the critical exception of the labor time issue mentioned above. While labor time estimates are inherently subjective, inaccurate estimates are one of the most common complaints among AllData users.
• Features – If you’re looking for auto repair data, AllData has you covered. While its feature set is different from other auto repair platforms, users agree that it’s among the best options in its own subcategory. With respect to functionality, the main criticism we found is that the app sometimes crashes and requires a full restart.
• Quality of Support – Based on user reviews, customer support seems to be one of AllData’s main weaknesses. Comments were roughly evenly split between those who had great experiences and those who didn’t. Other users were simply frustrated with how often they had to rely on the support team to help them with technical issues and other unexpected problems.
• Value for Money– As mentioned above, AllData’s pricing is a common concern. The Repair subscription runs $189 per month and doesn’t include key features like collision data and mobile access. The value proposition will ultimately depend on your volume and how you plan to use AllData.
